David Windham
It would be hard to find a person that may be better suited to be selected to the Magee Hall of Fame than David Windham.
David was the face of Windham’s Restaurant since the early 90’s. However his story started long before that as David worked in the family business for years.
David died on September 17, 2013 at the age of 53. According to his sister, Donna, he never complained about his illness he took it in stride and did his best to maintain his sense of humor his illness. His illness would rear its head on Thanksgiving of 2012 which lead to testing and the discovery that he had liver cancer which would eventually spread throughout his body.
David and his wife Teresa have two children Lauren and Matthew. Lauren is married to Andrew Pierce and they have one child, Harper. Matthew is also married and her name is Meegan.
Donna said the most enjoyable times she recalled were when David and his dad worked together in the restaurant.
Upon graduating from high school David attended Jones and went on to Southern Miss. He came back to Magee to work in the family business.
Donna said he enjoyed the restaurant business but being the owner you never knew what the schedule would be. It may be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. based on who may or may not come in to work.
One of David’s biggest pleasures was having the family come in the restaurant to eat.
When time allowed he enjoyed getting together with David, Donna and Michael Dunn and playing rook. Michael would be right up in the middle with David and David would have it no other way. He was just a loving and caring person.
David was prepared many a meal for local athletic programs and was a active booster for the local schools. But there were a lot of things that David would do for people the he just did not talk about.
Personal Note: Who didn’t love David! From the time my sons were old enough to go to Zip’s they were flipping quarters for payment of their meal! David loved his family…and his family loved him. The smiles and laughter he brought into so many lives will always serve as a tribute to the man he was. Congratulations to the Windham family…David truly deserves to be a member of the Hall of Fame.
