Last Friday on a crisp September night in “The Hole”, The Cougars battled a long time rival in the East Rankin Academy Patriots. The Patriots started the scoring 1st on their opening drive of the game but after that it was all Cougars, as Simpson came away with a victory to get their first district win of the young 2024 season. Star RB Senior Hayes Berry returned to the lineup after being on the shelf for the last 2 weeks with injury to lead the Cougars with an 80 yard TD run and a 22 yard TD pass to Senior WR Chanse Funchess. Junior TE Chase Adcock also had 2 receiving TDs from Sophomore QB Brady McKenney and Senior RB Samuel Smith rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with a 5 yard TD run to cap off the 42-17 victory for Simpson.
Next week the Taylorsville TarTars travel to “The Hole” for 2024 Homecoming, as the Cougars look to get their 2nd victory on the year.
