Control!!!
My family and friends will tell you that I like control. I want to drive, I want to instruct, and I want to choose and making a decisions come naturally. But I also want to know “why, how, and when”.
Many of us will not or cannot decide or act without having the answers to these three questions. The scriptures tell us to “ask in faith, with no doubting” when we pray and ask for God’s guidance. I have always believed that God is able to do anything that is needed in my life and I believe he can perform miracles! God can do anything, but will He? The faith that the scriptures describe ask us to trust that God knows the best answer for our lives. I have not always liked the answers that I received; I still have many questions and thoughts about things in my life; but God does not need to explain Himself to me. I need to trust and believe that whatever it takes – give up control, experience heartache and brokenness, and trust that I will overcome the hurt! That is the part that faith plays in our prayers. I want healing, but many times death brings that perfect healing for God’s children. I want riches, but my faith grows stronger in want and need. I want riches, but can God trust me with riches? I want my plan for my family to work because I know my plan is wonderful and I just want God to make it happen!!! But my wisdom is limited, my discernment is shaky, my vision is cloudy, I can’t see the contents of a person’s heart, and I cannot see the future!!!
The best use of my control is when I willingly yield to God’s control of my life!
James 1:6 – “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” (NKJV)
Jeremiah 29:11-13 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (NIV)
