Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) returned to Washington, D.C., to vote in favor of the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act. The legislation passed the Senate unanimously and passed the House of Representatives 388-5.
In a statement to his constituents, Congressman Guest said, “Today I am back in Washington as we seek to pass legislation to help our small businesses, our hospitals, and as we seek to provide additional funding for testing that is vitally important to reopening our economy. Today’s bill will provide funding to our business communities and serve as a bridge as they seek to continue to operate during uncertain economic times. Our country will continue to meet the challenges that lie ahead.”
In order to follow social distancing guidelines, the House voted in an unprecedented manner. Members were divided into eight groups, and each group was given 10 minutes on the floor to vote. Additionally, the House chamber was sanitized between the two vote series that took place today. Congressional leaders are searching for more solutions to allow Members to return to committee meetings and markups.

Congressman Guest Outs New Oversight Committee as Another Partisan Attack
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) voted against H. Res 935 – Establishing a Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Outbreak. The legislation created a Democratic-controlled committee that will have subpoena power to review the government’s response to the coronavirus.
“This legislation created a committee that will use taxpayer resources to fund political attacks during an election year,” Guest said. “The CARES Act provided extensive oversight to review the government’s coronavirus response, including $20 million to the Government Accountability Office. At best, a new House oversight committee will be wasteful and redundant, but it’s more likely the Democratic-controlled committee will use taxpayer dollars to renew politically motivated attacks against Republicans in an election year. Now is not the time for another wave of highly divisive, politically motivated attacks like we saw in the impeachment sham.”
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act already established a Special Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery, the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, and a Congressional oversight committee to reduce waste and ensure funds appropriated in the CARES Act are not abused.
