Dear citizens of Magee,
We have recently received multiple complaints regarding juveniles using splat guns to shoot at citizens around the city. In the most recent incident, a pregnant woman was struck in the head. While some individuals have chosen not to press charges, let me be clear, if your child targets the right person and that individual decides to pursue legal action, your child will be charged.
Even more concerning, if they approach the wrong person and that person reacts with violence in the heat of the moment, the consequences could be serious and irreversible.
We strongly urge you to supervise your children and make sure they are using splat guns responsibly at home and for target practice only, not on people. Be aware that using a splat gun against someone can lead to assault charges, and if a person is struck in the eyes, it could even become a felony offense. You can also be sued in civil court.
Please help us avoid unnecessary incidents and ensure your children are acting safely and respectfully in our community.
Sincerely
Chief Denis J. Borges
