Co-Lin Career, Technical and Workforce honors area businesses and industries

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College Career, Technical and Workforce Education Division recognized three businesses and industries for their service and partnership at the Business and Industry Appreciation Breakfast held at The Thames Center on the college’s Wesson Campus. The annual appreciation event is an opportunity to honor district businesses or organizations that have provided exceptional support for Co-Lin students and programs.
This year, the President’s Award, was presented to Sheldon Laboratory Systems, which originally partnered with Workforce Education in 2013. This company uses Co-Lin’s full-time trainers to provide powered industrial truck, pallet jack, DOT Hazmat Safety, lock out/tag out, industrial ergonomics, CPR, and electrical safety awareness training to ensure their employees are properly trained.
Sheldon Labs has donated much needed equipment to the Automation and Control Technology Program, allowed their employees to assist with mock interviews for Career-Tech students, and have actively begun recruiting graduating Career-Tech students. Additionally, Sheldon will also take part in video footage to be used as part of Workforce Education’s website enhancement project.
Special Recognition Award was presented to King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Along with sponsoring events like Scrubs and Scopes Medical Camp and the Pathways Job Fair, KDMC serves as a clinical site for Career-Tech programs and provides job shadowing for students. They were one of the first businesses to embrace the ACT Work Ready Region Initiative and currently use the Work Keys Assessment for employment and job classification testing. To date, Workforce Education has proctored 85 of their employees and will continue assessment testing on a monthly basis.
Because of their efforts, KDMC has received the Mississippi Workplace Success Award from the ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign. This honor qualifies them to be considered for National Semifinalist status by the ACT Selection Committee.
Also receiving a Special Recognition Award was Delphi Packard of Brookhaven, in recognition for their support and active involvement with Copiah-Lincoln Community College Career-Technical and Workforce Education. Delphi’s partnership with Workforce Education has utilized WET Funds to hire adjunct instructors and Co-Lin’s in-house trainers have provided powered industrial truck training.
In addition to partnering with Workforce, Delphi serves as an advisor for the Automation and Control Technology and Electronics Programs. They have participated in mock interviews with Career-Tech students and recruited graduating students for careers at Delphi Packard.
