2024 Year in Review
From October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, the Central Mississippi Regional Library System (CMRLS) proudly served around 226,000 residents in Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties through its 20 branches. Here is a look into what all we did this year:
**Highlights:**
**New Look:**
CMRLS launched a new logo that better represents its dedication to creativity, curiosity, and continuous learning.
**Fun Summer Reading Program:**
Starting May 13, 2024, the Summer Library Program invited the community to dive into reading. Participants could log their books from June 1 to June 30 for a chance to win a $25 gift card, making reading enjoyable and rewarding.
**Enhanced Digital Resources with Hoopla:**
CMRLS expanded its digital offerings by adding Hoopla, which allows patrons to instantly access a wide range of eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies, and more—no waiting required. This made it easier for everyone to enjoy the library’s digital materials.
**Support for Back-to-School:**
In July 2024, CMRLS promoted resources like ComicsPlus, a platform filled with graphic novels for readers of all ages. This effort aimed to engage young readers, especially those who may be hesitant, and to support their learning as they got ready for school.
**Community Engagement:**
CMRLS was active on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest, keeping residents updated on events, programs, and services. CMRLS broadened its outreach efforts by connecting with the community through local events and partnerships. They participated in the Mississippi Comic Con to share resources and promote reading among all ages. The library system also took part in local festivals, which helped build connections with new patrons. Collaborating with the Mississippi Museum of Art and local schools, CMRLS created unique educational experiences and encouraged creativity. These outreach initiatives show CMRLS’s commitment to bringing library services and resources to the community, ensuring everyone has access and opportunities to engage.
Throughout the year, CMRLS offered various services such as wireless printing, eBooks, audiobooks, and access to online resources like MAGNOLIA and World Book Online. By providing innovative programs and valuable resources, CMRLS continued to inspire creativity and a love for learning in the central Mississippi community.
