Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, December 1, 2020 for their regular scheduled meeting.
Mayor Dale Berry reminded citizens the Christmas Parade was schedule for Tuesday, December 8, 2020 starting at 6:00 p.m. The parade route will begin on the south end of Main Street below the railroad tracks. The parade route will proceed up Main Street. The Mayor reminded all participants in the parade no candy or items are allowed to be thrown from floats, vehicles or on foot during parade. Anyone caught throwing items will be removed from the route immediately.
Berry congratulated Coach Teddy Dyess and the Magee High School Football team for winning South State. Berry stated “he hoped the City of Magee is a ghost town Friday and everyone is at the state championship game supporting the Magee Trojans.”
The City of Magee is receiving an ATM machine. The ATM will be located inside the Police Department. Anyone needing cash to pay fines, utility bills, or other fees to the city will have access to the machine.
The City of Magee Library is still experiencing telephone issues. AT&T has been notified and performed status checks which reveal no problems. AT&T is sending a representative to perform a more thorough investigation. Hopefully the issue will be resolved quickly.
The Board approved the hiring of Shane Brown as a part-time officer and Marquita Johns as a part-time dispatcher.
Berry advised he has found a location for the homeless. All is needed now is a non profit organization to take over and head the project.
Hugh Dillmore advised the citizens of Magee that all garbage must be bagged in plastic bags. No loose garbage will be collected! City employees will not pick up any garbage over 50 pounds. Please make sure heavy items are not bagged for collection.
The City is in the process of evaluating all ditches in the city. The goal is to clean the ditches and allow better water flow during high waters.
The meeting recessed into executive session to discuss personnel issues.
