On January 24, 2025, at approximately 11:18 PM, the Magee Police Department dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a reckless driver in a black vehicle near Walgreens. An officer shortly observed a black Volkswagen Jetta driving recklessly and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Hwy 49 near the Budget inn. The driver, identified as Scott Kennedy, refused to stop immediately, continuing to drive before eventually pulling into a residence.
Upon making contact, the officer noted that Mr. Kennedy appeared visibly intoxicated. During the subsequent DUI investigation, Mr. Kennedy refused to take a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT). He was taken into custody and transported to the Magee Police Department, where he refused to cooperate with Intoxilyzer testing, citing his rights and repeatedly changing the subject. After his continued refusal, a search warrant was obtained to collect blood samples at the hospital to test for alcohol or narcotics.
As a result of his actions, Mr. Kennedy was charged with the following offenses: Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Failure to Comply with a Police Officer, Driving with a Suspended License, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and Reckless Driving
It does not matter whether you are a doctor, teacher, public official, or law enforcement officer. if you choose to endanger lives by drinking and driving while over the limit in the City of Magee, you will be arrested. The choice is yours.
