State Senator Chris McDaniel has been mulling a run for higher office again, and confirmed that he will be announcing his plans on Thursday, February 28.
McDaniel, known to many as a far right conservative, has served in the Mississippi Legislature for the past 12 years and has sought the US Senate Seat that was previously held by Senator Thad Cochran and is now held by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. McDaniel was able to take Cochran to a runoff in 2014 but lost by a very narrow margin against the incumbent. When Cochran decided to retire before completing his term, Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith was appointed to fill the position until the special election was held in November of last year. He, along with Mike Espy and Toby Bartee, challenged Hyde-Smith who would go on to hold onto the seat. Now it appears that the two-time US Senate Candidate will be pursuing a State Office. McDaniel meets all qualifications to hold the office of Attorney General, however, others think McDaniel may be seeking an office higher up the chain. We will see what McDaniel decides to throw his hat in the ring for, and hope to have him down for a TalkShow interview in the near future. Stay tuned to MageeNews.com for more information.
