According to MDOT District 7 District Engineer Albert White four crossovers will be eliminated and three modified.
The following crossovers will be closed:
- Crossover at Angela’s and Dairy Queen
- Crossover at Ward’s
- Crossover near Lampton Love and Fernando’s
- Crossover in front of Subway and Exxon
These crossovers will be modified:
- Crossover on 2nd avenue near KFC and Red Apple Chevron
- Crossover at 8th Avenue near Berry’s Seafood and Popeyes
- Crossover near Dirt Cheap
- Crossover at Goodwater Road will be upgraded
The following crossovers will not be changed:
- Crossover at Sears and Main Street
- Crossover at Walmart
- Crossover at Highway 28
“Most of the work will take place at night,” stated White.
10 light poles on 49 are in the way of construction. Six of the poles are Entergy, and four are Southern Pine. The city can request the poles to be relocated on the highway.
Federal Safety Funds are providing needed money.
*Originally, MDOT planned to over-lay 149 this year. According to White, the project is postponed for a year.
