Caution!
How many caution signs do you see every day?
“Caution: floor is Slippery when wet”
“Caution: Railroad crossing” “Caution: Water over the Road”
“Caution: Construction ahead”
Do any of you see a caution or warning signs and ignore them? We see them everywhere in this day of litigation, and some of the signs seem to be redundant. If I see water on the floor, I’m supposed to have enough sense to know the floors will be slippery! But sometimes I don’t see the water because I’m not paying attention, I’m not careful! We live in a society that expects someone else to take care that we don’t make dumb mistakes; that someone else should pay me for my mistakes! This generation has been described as “entitled” – the idea that someone else is responsible for their comfort and their happiness: “The government owes me!” “My parents owe me a college education!” “My boss owes me a raise!”
Mark Twain said long ago: Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.”
We have been warned many times in the scriptures about being careful and watchful, yet we continue to ignore the signs! Why should I be surprised when my car is swept away into the deep waters when I have ignored the caution signs?”
