To the residents of Senate District 35 it has been my honor to serve you as your State Senator these last four years. I now seek your support once again as I run for re-election of this great district. Four years ago I told you I would fight for the hard working tax payers of our state. I told you I would work to limit government involvement in the private sector. I said I would help push legislation to protect life at every stage. I would support education at all levels and that would work to increase parental choice for those with special needs. These are the principles I ran on four years ago and I am proud to say my voting record reflects that I have done just that.
I believe our state is headed in the right direction as we have cut taxes in our state and we have over $400 million in the rainy day fund. I believe we should continue to find ways to get more of that money back in the pocket of the tax payers. I am proud to have supported legislation that gives more sales tax monies back to local governments as well. I co-sponsored a bill for several years that finally passed in our special session that would gradually grow the local portion of the amount of sales taxes collected from 18 ½% to 21%. Our state has also become the most prolife states in the nation and I am proud to have co-sponsored the “Heartbeat” legislation this year that would abolish abortion once a heartbeat is heard. It is very important to me to be a voice for those babies in the womb that have no voice. I am proud to have supported legislation that will send much needed help back to our counties to help in road and bridge repair. We should always work with local and county officials in finding ways to find common ground and do what is good for the people of our district and state. As a former teacher I know the demanding job our teachers face. I understand the challenges and I know how demanding it is in the classroom now more than ever. I believe we should shrink our districts within the state and get more of that money into our classrooms and with our teachers.
It has been an honor to serve you as your State Senator and once again I ask for your consideration. If I cannot be contacted at the capital I am most of the time at full time job at Peoples Bank in Mendenhall. Please do not hesitate to call on me if I can ever be of assistance to you!
