Burn ban update, 09/29/2015:
The City of Magee & surrounding areas continue to be under an officially declared emergency suspension of all outdoor burning.
The NWS in Jackson has posted fire danger warnings in this area, for later this week. Beginning Thursday, 10/01/2015, the conditions will deteriorate & the fire danger will become extreme. Expected impacts are: northerly winds around 20 mph & relative humidity values as low as 25%. I am reminding everyone that this area has already been classified as “severe drought” & these conditions, expected to arrive Thursday, will only enhance the fire danger.
A fire in this extremely dry vegetation, & under these weather conditions, will have the potential to rapidly expand to large scale wildfires consuming large acreage & property.
Please observe the burn ban, & exercise good judgment by properly disposing of all smoking materials so that the dry vegetation is not ignited by carelessness. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
Charles Valadie – Fire Marshal, City of Magee.
