Board of Supervisors Issue 10 Year Bonds for Repairs of Courthouse

During public comments of the Simpson County Board of Supervisors Morgan McNulty Dunn announced Vestra has purchased the old Pioneer building. Dunn on behalf of Vestra met before the board asking for a tax exemption. The board granted a 5 year tax exemption for the company.

Tim Gray began his first official board meeting as Chancery Clerk. Gray presented proof of publication of bid opening on December 8, 2022 for the courthouse repairs and windows restoration. The board approved to accept the bid of Latham Company in the amount of $1,153,390 and $5,9440 for blinds. The county will have approximately $600,000 in money to pay for project. The board voted to issue 10 year bonds for the remaining project.

Emergency Manager John Killpatrick reported a total of 1084 911 calls for the dates November 11th – December 14th, 2022. A total of four structure fires were reported for the previous month. The Red Cross training that was held the previous Saturday had several in attendance. Killpatrick reported the county received limited damaged from the storms Wednesday.

The announcement came that Pat Brown had been selected as the new Simpson County Development Foundation Director. Brown’s new role will begin January 2023.

The board approved an application for the Round 14 Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Assistance Program (RFTAPP) Funds to purchase a fire truck for the Pinola Volunteer Fire Department.

Road Manager Ben Warren advised the county had about 20-30 trees blown down during Wednesday storms and a few washouts on roads.

Sheriff Paul Mullins advised the Sheriff’s Office received 1st place in District 7 for garbage pickup.

A revised proposed precincts plan was presented to the board for approval. A copy of the map is attached below. The board approved the combination of Magee 4 South and Magee 4 North into one voting precinct. Voting will take place a the Civic Center in Magee.
