Damage to roads and culverts during storms was the topic of discussion at the Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Road Foreman Ben Warren advised the public to be patience in repairs. Due to excessive rain, the culvert on Graveyard road washed during Saturday’s storm. The National Weather service reported 6 1/2 inches of rain fell Saturday. Back up of  debris at the crossing gate could have aided in the washing away of the culvert,  but, the  fault was mainly due to rain. Warren advised Graveyard Road should be repaired by this weekend. The county is working hard to repair other roads in the county that suffered loss during the storms.

The board approved to pay Nova Tatum’s claim for vehicle damaged on Big V Road. Ms Tatum approached road crew working on the road and pulled over  to avoid equipment coming head on toward her. When Tatum pulled on side of road, the road gave way and Tatum”s vehicle became stuck. Tatum’s vehicle received $2,807.10 worth of damage from the incident.

The board approved an exemption to Solid Waste for Joseph Higgins, 305 Hwy 541 S., Mt. Olive, MS due to his commercial garbage pickup contract for his next-door business Higgins Heating and Cooling.
