BILOXI MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR OIL SPILL FRAUD
Gulfport, Miss. –  Elvis Oneal Gray, 40, of Biloxi, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge, Louis Guirola, to a term of thirty-three months in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons, followed by three years of supervised release for mail fraud in connection with the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis announced. Gray was also ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $7,500.00.
Following a trial in U.S. District Court in February, 2015, a jury found Gray guilty of carrying out a mail fraud scheme which included false employment letters and trip tickets in support of his false claim for lost earnings and profits as a result of the Deep water Horizon Oil Spill.
This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrea Jones and Jay Golden.
This case was brought as part of this District’s partnership with the National Center for Disaster Fraud (NCDF), a nationwide initiative to protect available funds and assistance for those victims of both natural and man-made disasters such as hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and the recent Gulf oil spill. If you have knowledge of fraud, waste, abuse, or allegations of mismanagement involving disaster relief operations, you can contact the NCDF by either calling the hotline at (866) 720-5721, faxing (225) 334-4707, emailing at disaster@leo.gov or in writing to National Center for Disaster Fraud, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-4909.
