BE THAT TREE

As I look for examples to help explain the scriptures and relate them to our lives, I have noticed the latest references about Zacchaeus climbing the tree to see Jesus. Many are pointing out that before the tree was needed, God saw the need and planted and nurtured the sycamore tree. The sycamore tree is a type of fig tree that had deep roots and branches that made it easy to climb. There are many documents and commentaries used by scholars to teach about this scripture, but I was struck by one simple fact: The tree provided a means for Zacchaeus to see Jesus!!

Do nothing out of selfish ambition

It doesn’t matter where we find ourselves in our daily lives, we should always be available to help others see Jesus. We can encourage, sympathize, or help others understand God’s ways.

We should be rooted in God’s word like the sycamore tree that Zacchaeus climbed was rooted in the dirt near Jericho. It is important to know what we don’t know and that we will never understand some of Go’s ways! Dig deep into God’s word, pray for the opportunity for God to use you to be that tree that someone climbs to see Jesus!!
