The Magee Police Department has received several phone calls from people throughout the county saying that they have been receiving phone calls for the last couple of days from a person claiming to be from the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) THIS IS A SCAM!!! The caller claims that the person owes several thousand dollars in unpaid taxes and if they aren’t paid immediately, an arrest warrant will be issued or that they will be arrested at their homes. The IRS or any other Government Agency will not approach you by phone, but will use the United Postal Service. If you receive any such phone call, hang up immediately and do not engage in conversation with the individual. The longer they keep you on the phone, the more personal information they could possibly get from you. Never give out any account numbers or Social Security numbers. Please pass this information along to others, especially elderly friends or family members, who are often the most targeted.
I received two calls on my cell phone from them. I simply hung up the phone but they leave a message to call them back. I hope no one falls for this scam.
