Simpson County School Board and Superintendent Greg Paes are working hard to move Simpson County Schools forward.

The board obtained the services of The Bailey Education Group from Ridgeland, MS, to study  a strategic plan for the Simpson County School District, schools, buildings, and communities to see what is the best route for growth and success with our schools and county.

The Bailey Education group presented three preliminary options to the Simpson County School Board as an update Thursday, October 11, 2019. (This is not the final recommendation only an update). Much work is still needed to compete the strategic plan. The board has taken no action at this time.

Option 1 is a $30 Million project to make all needed repairs and updates to facilities within the district.

Option 2 is a $40 Million project to build a consolidate high school. (This includes no sports facilities).

Option 3 is a $50 Million project to complete Option 1 and replace the worse structure of the district (Mendenhall Jr. High) or  a $70 Million project to do both option 1 and 2.

To have a better understanding of the projects, individuals need to attend the community meeting where the Bialy Group will answer questions.

The Bailey Education Group will meet with each city/community in the upcoming month.  Bailey stated, “it is important to meet with the communities and receive their input to complete a proper analysis.”

The first meeting will be held October 17, 2019 at Mendenhall High School Gym at 6:00 p.m.

The Second meeting will take place at Magee High School Auditorium Tuesday, October 22, 2019 beginning  at 6:00 p.m.

The final meeting is Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Simpson Central beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The Bailey organization has gone to great lengths to give an in depth study about the schools, demographics, attendance, school capacity, and over all function of the structures.

The public is encouraged to attend one of the meetings.  The Bailey group will present in full disclosure what is best for Simpson County as far as consolidation. Bailey will answer questions that pertain to facility improvements only.  To have a better understanding of what the School Board and District is working toward, citizens need to attend the meeting.
