Avery McNair Visits Board of Supervisors
Avery McNair, who was recently crowned Teen Miss Heart of the South, appeared before the Board of Supervisors to discuss her pageant platform “Let’s all be prepared: Emergency Preparedness for kids.” Avery has experienced two strong tornados in her lifetime. The last tornado completely destroyed their home and possessions. With a lasting impression of the danger of bad weather, Avery chose making others weather aware.
Avery is a student at Simpson Academy and the daughter of Jason and April McNair.
The March 4, 2024 Board of Supervisors meeting was called to order by President Mitchell Chatman followed by prayer and the pledge of allegiance.
Bid openings were tabled. The February minutes were approved. Road Manager Ben Warren presented the January work report which was approved.
Work will continue to Calvary Church Road as weather permits. Discussion was held concerning the purchase of a new asphalt packer. Both current packers
are in “pretty bad shape,” stated Warren. The Board made the decision to proceed with a budget of $15,000.

County Engineer Greg Bonds stated advertising bids for New Hope Road and Dry Creek Road will be posted. Greg reminded the Supervisors a request for funds from
State project must be submitted as soon as possible. “If you don’t ask…you want get,” said Bonds.
Jamie Brewer, Tax Accessor, submitted the surrender tag list and real & personal for 10/23. Twenty eight 911 addresses were sold for February. “Simpson County is continuing to grown,” stated
Brewer.
Sheriff Paul Mullins report:
Charlie Welch reported on progress at Courthouse. “We are still dealing with a few leaks but we are continuing to monitor the problem and have roofers lined up to assist,” explained Welch.
County Administrator Eric Bowen covered the following items:
Supervisor Wayne Womack made a motion to hire Southern Financial collection agency to collet outstanding accounts in the Solid Waste Department.
“No upfront money will be needed. They will be paid a percentage of what they collect,” explained Womack. The motion passed.
Great things coming for D’Lo Park
Simpson County Development Foundation Executive director Pat Brown brought good and exciting news to the Board meeting. D’Lo Water park will soon
have “expansion and capital investment.” The Foundation has plans to purchase a portable stage to be used at the park for concerts and other activities. Surrounding
cities who make a payment toward the purchase of the stage would be granted use of the stage. Pickle Ball Courts are in the plans with some “glaming” sites for upgraded
tents. An event is scheduled at the park on July 4th. Fireworks, food, music, and more are included in the day entertainment. The projected budget is $52,500 which the
Foundation/Water Park has secured. “We want to create a unique experience at the Water Park,” Pat explained. New kayaks are to be purchased…lots of great plans.
The meeting was adjourned to Executive Session. The next regularly scheduled meeting is Friday, March 15, 2024 where dump truck term contracts bids will be opened.
