Archie Leon Darden, 77, of Mount Olive, Mississippi, passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at King’s Daughter Hospital in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He was born Thursday, September 2, 1943, in Smith County, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee in Magee. The burial will follow in Maranatha Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Rudy Jackson and Bro. John Barnes will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031
Leon was employed by McCarty Farms in Magee, Mississippi following his high school graduation at Mize high school in 1962.
After working for three years, Leon served in the United States Army. During this time he was awarded citations for accident free driving over 4000 miles during his term in Germany. Leon served from 1965 until his Honorable discharge in 1972 with the rank of E-4.
After serving his country Leon returned to McCarty’s and retired with Tyson Foods after 53 years of employment.
Leon’s hobbies included deer and turkey hunting, fishing, gardening, listening to music, playing the guitar, family time and cheering on his favorite teams, the New Orleans Saints and the Ole Miss Rebels.
Leon Darden was humble, trustworthy, kind hearted and loyal to every person he met! We have truly lost a precious member of our family and a big piece of our heart!
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Billie Joyce Smith Darden; parents, William Darden and Rosie Lee Warren Darden; two sisters, Vondell Darden Lee and Barbara Darden Harvey; two brothers, John Mack Darden and David Darden; two brother-in-law’s, Julius Lee and Toby Rigney; and one infant nephew, John Craig Darden.
Survivors include one sister, Rose Darden Rigney; one step-son, Herbie Harris (Phyllis); one step-daughter, Mary Ables (Roger); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sister-in-law’s, Marilyn Darden and Sherri Darden; one brother-in-law, Tolson Harvey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Blackwell, Todd Blackwell, Tony Darden, Jarrett Darden, Mark Cole, and John Amory Darden.
