Angie Nichols Welch was born on January 29, 1957 to Hershel and Georgie Nichols, of Magee. She made many childhood memories growing up in the town of Magee with her siblings, Al, Paul and Patti and a host of neighborhood friends.
Angie is a graduate of Magee High School where she was named homecoming queen, Miss MHS, inducted into the Hall of Fame, and served as president of student council and cheerleader captain. In 1975, she married the love of her life, Danny Welch, and they made their home in the Magee area. She began working for State Guaranty Bank and continued there until she started her family.
They were blessed with four daughters, DeShea, Dana, Deidra and Dollie. She stayed home to raise her girls until they began school. Angie later began working for her husband in his law practice as his legal secretary. She worked by her husband’s side for over twenty years. Angie enjoyed spending her time helping to raise her nine grandchildren, who affectionately called her “MawLee”. She was known for her generosity in serving others, including her church family and community. She was a lifelong member of Goodwater Baptist Church where she served the Lord in many capacities. Her heart’s desire was to teach children about the love of Christ, and she did so by serving as a preschool and youth Sunday school teacher, preschool music leader and Bible Drill leader.
She touched many lives through her unselfish love for her family, church and community. She was always willing to give of her time and energy to help and share with others. Her life exemplified the attributes of the Proverbs 31 woman. In December of 2014, Angie lost her battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a great legacy for her family to follow.
On a personal note (Sue), I am thrilled Angie has been recognized by the Magee Chamber of Commerce for the life she lived serving her family, her city, and her friends. Magee is a better place because of Angie. Congratulations to the Welch family…a deserving honor for a wonderful lady. I loved this girl!
I just could not imagine a picture of Angie without her family…because that is always the way I see her…surrounded by her husband and daughters.
This picture was made at the wedding of Angie and Danny’s “baby” daughter, Dollie.
