JACKSON, Miss. —Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson kicked off the 54th Annual Dixie National Rodeo with a press conference today at the Mississippi Trade Mart. Commissioner Gipson was joined by Miss Rodeo America Taylor McNair; Mike Mathis, the voice of the Dixie National Rodeo; Ralph Morgan, long-time Dixie National Rodeo producer; and Steve Hutton, Executive Director of the Mississippi Fair Commission.
“I want to invite everyone to join us for the 54th Annual Dixie National Rodeo, the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi River. I guarantee you and your family will have a great time at this Genuine Mississippi event. The bronc riding, barrel racing, bulldogging, tie down roping, and bull riding will keep you on the edge of your seat, and we have a fantastic lineup of world class entertainment, not to mention Lecile, the famous rodeo clown. This combination provides fun-filled family entertainment for all ages,” said Commissioner Andy Gipson.
The Dixie National Rodeo takes place February 7 -13 at the Mississippi Coliseum. More than 700 participants from across the U.S. and Canada come to Jackson, Mississippi, each year to compete for the $250,000 up for grabs. The rodeo, a production of Harper & Morgan Rodeo Company, features bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, and tie down roping. Rodeo spectators can enjoy musical entertainment at each of the eight rodeo performances which include Easton Corbin, Morgan Wallen, Shenandoah, John Anderson, Dylan Scott, Cody Johnson, and Scotty McCreery.
