Wednesday brought strange weather in Simpson County and all over the state of Mississippi. In Magee, we dogged a bullet. With sirens blaring, everyone began the process of “hunkering” down for a big one.
I was on the way home from Madison following a doctor visit (the foot!!!) and received a call from the sweetest voice I had heard in a long time: “Sue Sue are you alright,” said my grandson Preston. “We heard a tornado was hitting Magee and we had to know you were ok,” he continued. How wonderful that someone cared! I cannot explain the joy and comfort this young voice brought to me. I explained that I was on the road and unaware the weather was bad in Magee. Immediately I began the calls to Magee. Knowing Diane would know everything…I called her first. She quickly told me …way to hot…and very scary. The text started popping with updates from locals.
Soon I received word from friend Joy Harris that we had “dogged a bullet.”
As Patrice and I entered Magee, a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky. Patrice commented, “when have you ever seen a rainbow at Christmas.”
To me, the rainbow was almost a sign of God’s grace to a community that is mourning over the loss of a child…a sign that life goes on…a sign that “you can face tomorrow.”
Some days we don’t receive rainbows…only storms…but always…and I mean always there is a rainbow in all events of our life.
On this Christmas Eve, my wish for you my friends is peace in your heart…not fear or sadness…but a peace that only God can give.
I am blessed to live in such a wonderful caring city. I am blessed with many friends…and I am blessed because I am allowed to love them…
Merry Christmas my friends…know you are special to me…know I am thinking of you…know you have given me the courage to “step out” each day when I have wanted to hide under the covers or under the bed! Thank you for love….I hope everyone will feel love during this season.
Prayers are with the people in north Mississippi who suffered loss of life and damage to homes during the tornadoes Wednesday. Yes, we were spared…but many were not. My heart aches for these families…we must treasure each day…we must tell one another we love them…we must show kindness…who knows what this Christmas eve may bring.
Merry Christmas
