U.S. ATTORNEY MIKE HURST PRESENTS 2019 PROJECT EJECT AWARDS

Jackson, Miss – U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst presented the 2019 U.S. Attorney’s Office Project EJECT Awards to individuals who demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to furthering the objectives of Project EJECT in the Southern District of Mississippi during 2019. Award recipients were nominated by USAO staff in a variety of categories for their outstanding work in supporting Project EJECT, a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to fighting and reducing violent crime through prosecution, prevention, re-entry and awareness.

The individuals and awards recognized  are as follows:

Outstanding Federal Law Enforcement Officer

Ryan James, Supervisory Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation

Outstanding Federal Law Enforcement Officer

Mike Knoll, Special Agent, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

Outstanding Task Force Officer, State

Dan Ratliff, Agent, Mississippi Gaming Commission, FBI-Task Force Officer

Outstanding Task Force Officer, Local

Mark Penn, Detective, Ridgeland Police Department, FBI-Task Force Officer

Outstanding State Law Enforcement Officer

John Hunt, Asst. Director, Corrections Investigation Division, Mississippi Dept. of Corrections

Outstanding Local Law Enforcement Officer

Jeremy Dunaway, Detective, Hattiesburg Police Department.

Outstanding Assistant United States Attorney

Erin Chalk, Assistant U.S. Attorney, U.S. Attorney’s Office

Outstanding Local Prosecutor

Patricia Burchell, District Attorney, Twelfth Judicial Circuit

Hal Kittrell, District Attorney, Fifteenth Judicial Circuit

Outstanding Prosecution Support Award

(honors a local community partner who helped move forward the mission of Project EJECT)

(honors an employee of a law enforcement agency whose contributions were above and beyond the call of duty and whose work made it possible for Project EJECT to be successful)

Deric Hearn, Deputy Chief-Major Investigations, Jackson Police Department

Lifetime of Leadership Award

(honors someone who has committed and lived their life to leading efforts to better their communities and making our neighborhoods safer)

Leonard Papania, former Chief of Police, Gulfport Police Department
