Sandra Gay Martin, 74, of Raleigh, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. She was born Friday, February 22, 1946, in Raleigh, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Salem Baptist Church in Raleigh, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Raleigh. The burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery in Raleigh, Mississippi. Bro. Stevie Hand will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Janice Henderson. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031
Mrs. Sandra was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She retired as a Police Dispatcher for the Smith County Sheriff Department after 19 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. After retire she enjoyed fishing, eating out, and spending time with her family. The light of her world was the grands.
She was preceded in death by father, Gay Ward Atwood; and one sister, Kathy Atwood Kearney.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years Wayne Martin of Raleigh; mother, Mary Katherine Atwood of Arkansas; three sons, Bobby Wayne Ainsworth (Tammy) of Taylorsville, Kent Ainsworth (Michelle) of Stringer, and Walyon Martin (Shelly) of Puckett; two step-daughters, Lisa Spencer (Eric) of Georgia and Courtney Jones of Taylorsville; sixteen grandchildren, Taylor James (Kody) of Stringer, Bobby Ward Ainsworth (Jailynn) of Taylorsville, Leif Spencer of Georgia, Storm Spencer of Georgia, Rain Spencer of Georgia, Gus Spencer of Georgia, Janie-Belle Spencer of Georgia, Serenity Spencer of Georgia, Anna Ainsworth of Collins, Kennan Ainsworth of Collins, Chase Myrick of Stringer, AvaGrace Myrick of Stringer, Sidney Martin of Puckett, Aubrey Martin of Puckett, Cameron Walley of Taylorsville, and Britney Jones of Taylorsville; five great-grandchildren, Hadley Ainsworth of Taylorsville, Holly Ainsworth of Taylorsville, Zak Ainsworth of Taylorsville, Kendry James of Stringer, and Kenner James of Stringer; one brother-in-law, Perry Kearney of Arkansas; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Michael Thompson, Jason Thompson, Danny Arender, Bobo Bowen, Darrell Thornton, and Wendell Frith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Phillips, Charlie Crumpton, John Atwood, and Ricky Atwood.
