What was supposed to have been a Friday night game was moved to Thursday due to the threat of potential bad weather from Hurricane Delta. Rain played a role in the game. But, the Magee Trojans came out on top at the end of the night by a score of 20-6. The game was a battle of the Trojans. Both mascots for the team are Trojans.
Magee won the toss and deferred the ball until second half. Magee fans were astonished on an opening kick off when West Marion returned the ball for a touchdown. A flag on the play resulted in a holding call against West Marion and the touchdown was called back resulting in a penalty. A few plays later Magee intercepted the ball and drove down the field. #23 Jawon Shaw scored a rushing attempt with 5:03 left in the first quarter. The point after attempt was no good. Magee led by a score of 6-0 to end the first quarter.
Magee was back in action when #1 Cayden Bridges scored with 5:00 left in the half. The two-point conversion by #1 Bridges was good. Magee increased the lead by a score of 14-0. Magee would find the end zone one more time with #2 Chandler Pittman scored on a quarter back keeper with 1:00 left in the half. The two-point conversion was not good and the Magee Trojans led by a score of 20-0. West Marion would not enter halftime quietly. West Marion scored with 20 seconds left on the clock to close the gap by a score of 20-6 entering halftime.
Halftime festivities for homecoming took place in the auditorium due to rain. The 2019 Homecoming Queen, Anyiah Williams, crowned Vyronyca Lee as the new 2020 Magee High School Homecoming Queen.
Magee received the ball on opening kickoff from West Marion to start the second half. Defense played the main key for the second half. Neither team allowed the other to score the entire halt. Both teams had interceptions.
After opening kick off West Marion drove the ball down the field only to turn the ball over on an interception close to the goal line. Magee took over and looked to be in control when West Marion answered and intercepted the ball from Magee. With strong defenses on each side of the ball, the game would end with Magee receiving the district win by a score of 20-6.
With a solid win under their belt Magee moves to 2-0 in district and 4-0 on the season. Next week is a road trip as the Trojans face Tylertown for a district game.
Magee Middle School cheerleaders were able to participate by cheering on the sidelines along with the high school cheerleaders because it was homecoming.
