The Brotherhood of First Baptist Church of Magee showed some hometown love Friday afternoon, hosting the Magee Trojans, cheerleaders and band members to a delicious pregame meal ahead of Friday night’s big rivalry matchup between Magee and Mendenhall.
Preparing a meal for a crowd of hungry young people is no small task, but the Brotherhood was ready. They planned for approximately 165 people, and judging by the empty plates, they came hungry!
The meal was about much more than food. It was an opportunity for members of the church to spend time with the young people of the community, fellowship with them and remind them that they are loved and supported.
“As we strive to reach out to our young people in our area through the churches, fellowship and good food, we want these young people to know we care,” stated Rickey Anderson of the Brotherhood.
The football players and cheerleaders gathered at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, where they enjoyed a home-cooked meal and time of fellowship. The gathering gave the students an opportunity to relax before the big game while getting to know members of the church and one another outside of the usual Friday night atmosphere.
The Magee High School band was also treated to a meal, with the Brotherhood taking the food to the MHS Band Hall so the musicians could enjoy their meal as they prepared for their role in the night’s festivities.
Before everyone dug in, Pastor Darnell Moffett shared a devotion, offering words of encouragement and faith to the young people as they prepared for the evening ahead.
Events like this are a wonderful reminder that supporting young people goes far beyond the playing field. It takes churches, families, volunteers and community members willing to invest their time and energy into the next generation.
The FBC Brotherhood certainly did its part Friday — serving up good food, fellowship, encouragement and a whole lot of community spirit.
And with the meal for 165 nearly disappearing, there’s no doubt the Trojans, cheerleaders and band appreciated every bite!
