MAGEE, Miss. – The Mississippi Urban Forest Council (MUFC) is pleased to announce that the City of Magee has officially joined the Mississippi Arboreta Trail (MAT) with the designation of McNair Springs Arboretum.

Located just south of Highway 49, McNair Springs Park is one of Magee’s natural treasures. The 15.5-acre park features a beautiful artesian spring, wooded walking areas, picnic facilities, and an impressive collection of more than 36 native tree species, providing residents and visitors with opportunities to enjoy nature while learning about Mississippi’s rich forest heritage.

The Mississippi Arboreta Trail is a statewide initiative that connects certified arboreta throughout Mississippi, promoting conservation, environmental education, community pride, and nature-based tourism.

“Magee has demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting its natural resources while creating an inviting outdoor destination for families, students, and visitors,” said Donna Yowell, Founder of the Mississippi Arboreta Trail and Executive Director of the Mississippi Urban Forest Council. “McNair Springs is a beautiful example of how communities can preserve their natural heritage while enhancing quality of life and encouraging tourism.”

As a member of the Mississippi Arboreta Trail, Magee will receive:

McNair Springs Park features towering native trees, scenic woodland settings, and a crystal-clear spring that has long been a destination for outdoor recreation. The arboretum will continue to serve as an educational resource while showcasing the importance of conserving Mississippi’s native forests.

The Mississippi Arboreta Trail is funded in part by the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund, the Mississippi Urban Forest Council, and participating local communities.
