Emergency crews used the Jaws of Life Thursday to free the driver of an SUV after a collision involving an 18-wheeler.
The crash was reported about 7:25 a.m. on U.S. 49 southbound in Simpson County, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.
The 18-wheeler hauling a 128-foot trailer was coming out of the D’Lo truck stop and attempting to turn left onto U.S. 49 when a Chevy Suburban, which was southbound, struck the trailer of the truck, MHP said.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Tony Carter of Jackson, was trapped in the wreckage. Once freed, Carter was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with unknown injuries, MHP Trooper Eric Henry said.
The truck driver, who Henry said is from Rayville, Louisiana, was not injured. He was charged with failure to yield the right of way, Henry said.
