Update: Highway 49 south of Magee is partially open following wreck of 18 wheeler. Driver is going to be ok. Truck was carrying 8.800 gallons of gas.
At approximately 1:30 PM Saturday south of Magee on Highway 49, an 18 wheeler loaded with gas took the ditch rather than hit a car that pulled out in front of the truck. The accident was at the New Hope and Saratoga crossing. The truck exploded into flames sending the driver to the hospital by ambulance. (I have no word on the condition of the driver.)
Earlier the traffic was rerouted onto the service road at 49 near New Hope Road. At this time, all lanes are shut down. According to local law enforcement, the highway could be shut down for hours. Gas went under the highway spilling into a creek. Several State agencies will be on scene throughout the afternoon to inspect local habitat and cause of the wreck.
Sue Note: I have received several videos of the accident. Thanks to the people who shared their videos and pictures. If you have FB, go to MageeNews.com FB page for additional videos.
