JACKSON, MS, MARCH 16, 2020 – Effective Monday, March 16, Jackson’s 16 WAPT News expands their nightly 10pm newscasts to one full hour of local news coverage. The programming change currently extends through the week of March 16 through March 22 and may be extended as events warrant.
The expanded newscasts will feature a focus on the spread of COVID-19 in Central Mississippi, particularly the Jackson Metro area, and will include updates from state officials, the Mississippi Department of Health, city government, school officials, and other information crucial to Jackson viewers during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Our mission is to inform and protect the Jackson community,” says 16 WAPT President and General Manager Mike Neelly. “Expanding our newscasts is just one more way we’re able to do this. This community service will help us in our commitment to delivering facts over fear on all our platforms.”
In addition to the extended newscasts, ABC will also adjust their programming schedule. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, Nightline will now follow 16 WAPT News at 10, with Jimmy Kimmel Live airing immediately after. This change is currently scheduled through Friday, March 20.
Coronavirus information, including school and business closings, can also be found on WAPT.com or by downloading the free 16 WAPT News app.
