Simpson County School Board met Thursday, June 9, 2022, for their regular scheduled meeting.
The agenda, minutes, Human Resource, and finances were all approved.
Misty Hanna with Federal Programs presented a Major Clarity Presentation. The power point showed how students were able to complete a profile and determine a journey for each one as far as academic planning which college is best suited for their field of study, helping build a resume and work-based learning. The students this year were asked to compete the first step of the program by logging in and completing the personality Assessment. 86% of the students completed the task. 2023 School year students will complete the full process. Some students have already completed the full process. Lariza Hernandez with Mendenhall High was one student to complete the program. Ms. Hernandez met before the board and showed hands on what all she had completed and what data was given back to help her with academic choices moving forward. 2022 School year the program was paid for with ESSER funds. The 2023 school year MDE will absorb the cost.
The following consent agenda was approved.
· Crystal Brewer requested permission to attend the American School Counselor Association Conference, July 5-12, 2022, in Austin, Texas.
· Dr. Antionette Woodall, Dr. Marion Lacey, and Arlicia Jordan requested permission to attend the MASS conference, July 12-15, 2022, in Biloxi.

Leslie Shivers presented the 2021 Audit Presentations. Minor items were found, and some had carried over from previous audit that will “clean/clear up” with the 2022 audit due to the fact not enough time between audits to complete findings.
Rev. Ralph Walker with the P-16 Council met before the board to discuss meetings of the council and what impact the council has accomplished for the students in the county.
Superintendent Holloway explained the program he is implementing with Portrait of a Graduate. The group has already taken a field trip to Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson. Summer School Sessions are in process and the schools have a good turnout with students.
Magee Middle School Principal Tracye Pierre appeared before the board with her TSI/ASI/SAR report that is required by MDE.
Mendenhall 5th grade building is behind schedule. The building most likely will not be ready before August 2022. The students will remain at Mendenhall Elementary in other classrooms until the building is completed in early fall. Upon completion, the students and teachers will move into the new building.
Construction at Simpson Central will cause for a temporary cafeteria to be relocated on the campus while the new cafeteria is constructed.
Dr. Holloway and Board Member Stan Bulger discussed safety issues within the schools. Simpson County School District is working hard to keep out students safe. Rooms have locks. The new elementary has safety areas with protection from high winds and tornados as well as safety glass from shooters. All schools are required to participate in safety shooter drills. Within the last 4 weeks of school, a safety exercise mission on the weekend was held at Magee High School by local police on school safety with shooters. The school takes the safety of all children of Simpson County Schools very serious.
