18-Wheeler Catches Ablaze on Highway 49
Magee firefighters responded to an 18-wheeler fire on Highway 49 just north of Saratoga Road early Friday morning at approximately 2:45 am.
A witness at the scene reported the semi, hauling auto parts, was travelling north bound when the overheated brakes caused the trailer to catch ablaze. Fortunately, firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the flames before the fire reached the cab of the semi.
Magee Police Department and Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded to the scene, where north bound traffic was rerouted as both lanes were briefly shut down.
Firefighters worked swiftly to deem the scene secure before returning to the station.
