William Carey University’s Nurse Educator program was ranked “No. 1 in Mississippi” by RegisteredNursing.org in its 2026 assessment.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor. It reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to preparing future nurse educators who will strengthen healthcare across the nation,” said Kelly Williamson, WCU dean of nursing.

A nurse educator is a registered nurse who specializes in training nursing students or providing continuing education to current nurses. Nurse educators fill leadership roles in academic settings, like nursing schools, or healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, to develop curricula, teach courses, and mentor students or staff.

The job requires a master’s or doctoral level degree in nursing education or a related field.

William Carey University’s master’s degree program provides flexibility for nursing professionals who are already working in the field – allowing them earn a degree without interrupting their careers.

  • It’s delivered in a 100 percent online format.
  • Two tracks are available, a one-year, full-time plan of study or a two-year, part-time plan of study.
  • The program also includes a preceptorship at a healthcare facility in the student’s local area.

In evaluating nursing programs throughout the United States, RegisteredNursing.org considers data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, the National Center for Education Statistics, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education, and the Council for Community and Economic Research.

“This distinction is more than just a ranking. It reflects the daily work your faculty, staff and students put into creating a strong academic experience,” said Sally Worthington of RegisteredNursing.org.
