Jackson, MS. Treasurer Lynn Fitch will be hosting a booth at the State Fair to assist Mississippi citizens in finding and reclaiming their unclaimed property.
“I am so pleased to be able to offer this convenient service to Mississippians,” said Treasurer Lynn Fitch. “Since first taking office, we have returned over $57 million in unclaimed property to its rightful owners. And, the Fair has been a great place for citizens to find their money. In fact, in our first three years at the Mississippi State Fair, we initiated nearly 5,000 claims there, resulting in payments of over $8.3 million to Fair-going citizens.”
Staff from the Office of the State Treasurer will be available in the Trademart building starting at 5 pm on opening day, October 5th. The booth will be open from 11 am to 5 pm, with some evening hours as well, each day until the Fair ends on October 16th.
Unclaimed property often comes from uncashed checks, forgotten refunds on utility deposits, or unknown insurance payments. Through the Treasurer’s Office, the State acts as custodian for the funds until they can be reunited with their rightful owners.
At the Fair, the Treasurer’s staff will help citizens navigate the online database of unclaimed property. Claim forms will also be available.
“Citizens can search our online database for their unclaimed property every day at www.TreasurerLynnFitch.com,” continued Fitch. “But we hope to see you at the Fair, as well.”
