Jackson, MS.  At a meeting of the Board of Trustees today, Treasurer Lynn Fitch was elected 2017-18 Board Chair for the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi (PERS).

“I am honored to have been elected to this position,” said Treasurer Fitch.  “I take this responsibility very seriously.  The current and future retirees of Mississippi deserve our very best efforts to keep their retirement savings safe and strong.”

Fitch has served as Board Vice Chair, as well as Chair of the Defined Contribution Committee, for the past year.  She succeeds Dr. Randy McCoy as Board of Trustees Chair.  Kelly Breland, a representative of State employees on the Board, will serve as this year’s Vice Chair.

“I want to thank Dr. McCoy for his service as PERS Chair,” continued Fitch.  “It has been a true privilege to serve with him in this capacity.  I am looking forward to working with Kelly Breland and all the Trustees over the coming year to ensure that PERS is on a steady trajectory to fiscal health.”

According to the latest Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (December 2016), at the end of the last fiscal year, PERS defined benefit plans served 399,757 members and 102,212 retirees and beneficiaries.  It paid out $2.4 billion in retirement benefits in Fiscal Year 2016.
