State Treasurer Lynn Fitch announced that Michelle Williams has joined her staff as Chief of Staff.  Michelle joins Deputy Treasurers Laura Jackson and Jesse Graham in leading an office dedicated to safeguarding and managing the state’s financial resources.

“I’m pleased to have Michelle join my team,” said Treasurer Fitch.  “She brings with her an added dimension of experience and knowledge from her years of service on Capitol Hill.  I am confident that she will help me and my staff achieve even more for the people of this great state.”

Michelle spent nearly 25 years in Washington, D.C., primarily working on Capitol Hill.  She held a number of positions there, concluding her federal service as Chief of Staff to two U.S. Representatives, including a leading member of the House Committee on Financial Services.  Michelle holds a J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.  She clerked at a federal appellate court upon receiving her law degree.

She joins Treasurer Fitch’s staff just as Chief Counsel Cory Wilson leaves the office to serve as a newly-elected Representative to the Mississippi House.  “Cory was an important part of this office for several years,” said Treasurer Fitch, “and we will miss his good counsel here.  But, I look forward to continuing to work with him and his colleagues at the Capitol for the benefit of all Mississippians.”
