At recent meetings of the Magee Board of Aldermen, Zoning Administrator Penny Aguirre has expressed continued frustration about dealing with the issue of trash at apartment complexes throughout the city.

Aguirre has said it is a matter of public health and safety, and Animal Control Officer Benny Blair told the board, “All that trash is bringing in wild animals.”

Aguirre told the board there were ten apartment complexes in town, but work is being done at some of them.

“Colonial’s a hot mess,” she said, “but she did do a lot of work.”

As of Friday, January 5, 2024, trash, furniture, and mattresses are visible at ParkPlace Apartments (below).

Park Place has a dumpster on site and is not paying the City for garbage pick up.  Rather than putting trash in the dumpster, items are being left by the road.  Tim Bray, City Superintendent,

explained if we (city) continue to pick up the trash, the apartment complexes will not dispose of items in a proper manner.  “This is costing the city a lot,” said Bray
