The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 28 and State Route 37 in Smith County.
As part of a $5.5 million project to realign and improve the intersection, the new signal will be placed in flash mode for a few days before traffic is shifted to the new alignment, and they begin full operation on Friday, July 25.
While this work is being completed, MDOT reminds motorists to use proper protocol when approaching a flashing red traffic signal. Motorists should treat the intersection as a four-way stop when approaching a flashing red light and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
This project was awarded to Chris Albritton Construction of Laurel and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
