At the Thursday, March 14, 2024, Simpson County School Board meeting, Board member Danny Cowart called out Sheriff Paul Mullins for the district not having resource officers at the schools in the county.

In the March 15, 2024 Simpson County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sheriff Mullins addressed the issue stating that this situation is “not on Paul Mullins.”

Sheriff Mullins explained to the board on steps that have and are being taken  to staff schools with resource officers.  The Sheriff department budget was set in October 2024  and as the Sheriff explained there is little wiggle room in the budget.

“We must work together and get together” to reach this goal, stated Mullins. Along with County Attorney Danny Welch, the two men are continuing to work on plans for resource officers.  The SCSD must do their part.
