The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Mass Communication and Journalism

will host the fourth annual Mississippi Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Day Wednesday, April 27.

Broadcast professionals from across the state will network with students and then present

an interactive panel discussion that is free and open to the public from 1-2 p.m. in the

Thad Cochran Center Ballroom on the Hattiesburg campus.

“This event has become a hallmark of the broadcast journalism sequence and demonstrates the strength of the program,” said Dr. Dave Davies, director of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism. “Through MAB Day, students are mentored by

seasoned professionals, and professionals receive insight into the next generation of

broadcast professionals.”

Thirteen media outlets from as far as Tupelo will be represented at MAB Day and include

Raycom Media, Inc., Media General, Blakeney Communication, Inc., Mississippi Public

Broadcasting and NewsMS/TeleSouth Communications, Inc.

“MAB day is an excellent opportunity for broadcast and multimedia students to find

employment,” said Dr. Mary Lou Sheffer, USM associate professor and sequence head for broadcast journalism. “Every year at least two seniors leave the day employed. For

students not yet ready to graduate, the day offers a chance to receive direct feedback on

their journalism skills from industry professionals.”
