The following information was received Thursday from Magee’s Fire Marshal Charlie Valadie. Ya’ll the burn ban is serious stuff. Please don’t take the information lightly.
Below is the statement just released by the NWS. It clearly warns of the impending dangerous conditions to come – beginning today. Burn Bans are in place. Violators are subject to fines/penalties from the various governing authorities having jurisdiction. I urge you to comply w/ the burn ban. We are already experiencing increased activity. Magee FF’s arrived on scene, just in time to rescue two dogs, & save a residence from an encroaching wildfire earlier today. The dogs were chained near the residence, & had no way of escape. They were only seconds away from being over run by flames. Please stay aware & be extra cautious during this time of increased fire danger. (by Charlie Valadie) (Update on dog….the dog is ok but suffered minor burn injuries to left leg)
HIGH FIRE DANGER CONDITIONS EXPECTED THROUGH THIS WEEKEND…
MODERATE TO EXTREME DROUGHT CONDITIONS EXIST ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION…WHICH HAS RESULTED IN VERY DRY VEGETATION. A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA EARLY FRIDAY…BRINGING STRENGTHENING NORTHERLY WIND THROUGH THE DAY. THE COMBINATION OF DRY VEGETATION…GUSTY WINDS…AND DAYTIME RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES BETWEEN 20 AND 30 PERCENT ON FRIDAY WILL RESULT IN INCREASED FIRE DANGER. LOW DAYTIME RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS ARE EXPECTED AGAIN ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY…PROLONGING FIRE DANGER CONCERNS THROUGH THE WEEKEND. CONDITIONS ARE SUCH THAT A SPARK FROM EQUIPMENT…THE HEAT FROM A CATALYTIC CONVERTER…OR ANY HEAT SOURCE COULD START A GRASS OR BRUSH FIRE. WHEN BARBECUING…TAKE THE UTMOST CARE. DO NOT DUMP ASHES UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN THEY ARE COMPLETELY OUT. LIVE COALS CAN BURN FOR AS LONG AS ONE OR TWO DAYS AFTER BEING USED. REMEMBER…WILDFIRES CAN PUT LOCAL FORESTRY PERSONNEL AND FIREFIGHTERS IN LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS…AND CAN ENDANGER COMMUNITIES. PLEASE USE CAUTION…BE ALERT FOR TROUBLE SPOTS…AND HELP PREVENT FOREST AND GRASS FIRES.
