The Simpson County Board of Supervisors met on Friday, January 5, 2024, for a recessed meeting.

The board approved the CDL Clearinghouse at $350 per month for the roads and solid waste departments, which covers drug testing, quarterly updates, and drug awareness training. The board’s approval is contingent upon the county attorney’s approval of the contract.

Regina Evans appeared before the board as the interim county administrator.

The board approved the re-appointment of all current county officials and personnel for the 2024-2028 term, not including Board Attorney Danny Welch.

The board approved appointing Greg Bonds of Benchmark Engineering & Surveying, LLC as the new county engineer for state aid projects.

The board approved the rehiring of all current county employees.

The board adopted the Current Personnel Policies and Procedures for County Employees except for the Chancery Clerk’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office. The current one became effective October 1, 2004.

Charlie Welch updated the board about carbon monoxide at the jail, saying the problem had been identified and fixed and the charge was only for parts, not labor. He said the other burners at the facility will be evaluated to avoid similar issues in the future.

Welch also told the board he had submitted a computer use policy to the board members for review and will be working on the new Road Work Order Concept, about which Supervisor Wayne Womack said, “We’re ready to move forward.”

Welch suggested the county begin with a “hybrid approach” that will include both the electronic report, as well as the ability to continue to use paper forms.

The board authorized an inter-fund load of $109,000 from the general fund to the E911 fund 097 for the county’s E911 console and other expenditures.

The board approved applicable travel, meals, lodging, registration, and mileage expenses for a one-night stay for Deputy BJ Abron to attend HCLEOA Physical Testing.

Evans reminded the board of the following:

Board Attorney Danny Welch informed the board that they are “ready to go ahead” with the collection agreement.

The board entered an executive session.
