The board also considered payment of $3000 for a mandatory inspection of the jail facilities and considered a request from the City of Magee for a 120 foot culvert to help improve drainage coming off 5th Avenue NE in the Goodwater Community.

The Board approved the transfer of a seized and forfeited 2004 Volvo from the Sheriff’s Office to the County Administrator’s Office for use as a pool car for administrative purposes. The Board also made acknowledgements to Reagan Neely, who thanked the Board for their support as she participated in the Miss Hospitality Program, and the Simpson Central Principle, who thanked the Board for their support of the Simpson Central Archery Team as it competed in Nationals.

Bid For Hopewell Road Project Accepted

Monday morning the Simpson County Board of Supervisors met to consider bids for roadwork to be commenced on Hopewell Road. The county estimated the project cost at just over $145,000.  Eight construction companies placed a bid for the project and most valued the cost of the project below the county’s estimate. Oddee Smith Construction was the low bidder at $125,334.83, and was awarded the project. The bid was 13.7% below the county estimate.

Oddee Smith expects the project to take about 25 working days to be completed, and expects to start in July when the weather will better cooperate with the project.
