Health Sciences students at the Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) recently visited The University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Nursing and Health Professions.

While there, SCTC students got a hands-on look at the Clinical Simulation Center, which provides a real-life experience from patient intake to dismissal in a hospital setting. Students were excited to visit the patient simulation center and learned that those that attend the program are provided the opportunity to gain applied nursing skills in a safe environment, using simulation of medical conditions they may not be exposed to in clinicals.

Students who toured the simulation center noted that it looked like a real hospital, with hospital beds neatly made, IV poles located around the rooms and adjustable medical lighting.  They also visited separate small rooms where instructors sat behind glass with computers and projected their voices from the mannequins to explain how the mannequin was feeling.

SCTC students enjoyed speakers from all program areas of the nursing field. They learned how to enroll and about the choices they can make concerning programs in all nursing areas. They also learned about all the many scholarships available for nursing.
