Schedule of 165th Mississippi State Fair Events for Friday, October 11, through

Saturday, October 12, 2024

STATE FAIRGROUNDS, Miss. – Commissioner Gipson invites everyone to attend the 165th Mississippi State Fair and announces the schedule of events taking place tomorrow, Friday, October 11, through Saturday, October 12, 2024. All events take place on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.

Starting tomorrow, the State Fair’s weekend schedule is packed with several livestock shows involving our Mississippi 4-H and FFA exhibitors. One of the most popular shows each year, the Pretty Cow Contest, will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 11, at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the Judging Arena, located inside Barn 14. Exhibitors in this unique event dress themselves and their dairy cows in special, homemade costumes with a milk-related theme. The most creative exhibitor and cow duo to wow the judges wins! Claude Nash, local cattleman and editor of the Mississippi Market Bulletin; Esmerelda Dickson, USDA-NASS state statistician; Brandi Ratliff, Professional Development Specialist with the Mississippi Community College Board; and Kennedi Cooper, reporter with WAPT News, will act as this year’s judges. The Pretty Cow Contest will follow the presentation of the 2024 Commissioner’s Production Cup, which goes to the dairy cow that is producing the most milk, and their exhibitor.

Tomorrow also features the 2024 State Fair News Stations Contest! Representatives with local Jackson media and news organizations will compete in a blowup horse race during the Taste of the Dixie National Rodeo, located inside Frontier Village. The winner and champion will be announced immediately following the race.

Saturday is 4-H Day at the Mississippi State Fair. Numerous 4-H members from around the state will participate in various competitions of cooking, public speaking, fashion, Lego building and more inside the Trade Mart! The Omelet Cookoff and Fashion Revue both start at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Fashion Revue Modeling at 11:00 a.m. Students involved in the Public Speaking event will begin their orations at 9:00 a.m. The Share the Fun event, Robot Round-Up and Lego Build contest all start at 11:00 a.m., followed by the 4-H Chopped Contest at 1:00 p.m. Festivities for 4-H Day will end with a closing ceremony and awards presentation at 3:30 p.m.
