Mississippi State Treasurer David McRae presented a Simpson County Academy student with the first “Tell Me Something Good” scholarship on Wednesday, May 13, at 2:00PM-CT. The State Treasurer, along with his College Savings Mississippi team, surprised the student at his school, Simpson Academy, in Mendenhall. 

The “Tell Me Something Good” scholarship will be awarded each week in May. Jered is the Founder of Season of Service. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he has organized and given away household baskets to the elderly and new mothers. He has also provided lunches for healthcare workers at local hospitals.

Jered is currently an upcoming Senior at Simpson County Academy. . Jered attends Bridge Pointe Baptist Church and First Pentecostal Church in Magee. 

Jered is an honor student and is currently a member of the MAIS Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Simpson County Future Leaders and Mayor’s Youth Council.  His future plans are to pursue a degree in business and finance at the University of Southern Mississippi. 

At Simpson, Jered is a member of the Varsity boys Basketball Team. Jered was a member of the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 State Championship Basketball Team. Also, he is a member of the 2019-2020 Overall Basketball Team. 

In the community, Jered is the founder of the Season of Service Organization. He and his family organize events to assist the community. Some examples of their service are: feeding the homeless, playing BINGO at nursing homes, and giving Christmas cards to nursing homes. He encouraged his family and peers to get involved. 

This year Jered was selected as a recipient for Treasure David McRae “Tell Me Something Good” Scholarship and the Southern Pine Electric Youth Leadership Program. He was also selected to participate in the Lions Club Leadership Conference, Apex Leadership Summit, and Mississippi Boys State but unfortunately these events were canceled due to Covid 19

Jered enjoys spending time with family and friends and helping out his community.

  • Each week in May, the State Treasury is presenting a Mississippi student with a $529 scholarship for doing good in their community. 
  • This is the first scholarship awarded. 
  • Nominations can be made at A judging panel, which includes First Lady Elee Reeves as well as representatives of local charities, religious organizations, and healthcare providers, evaluates the entries.
