The rubbage ordinance which allows  one pick up per month at residents home for debris and a charge of $25 for an additional pick up will now be enforced.

At the Tuesday, August 21st Board of Aldermen meeting, the board decided to began enforcement of the ordinance due to the abuse by many residents.

Discussion concerning the amount of material left by homeowners for the city to dispose of has gotten out of hand. The ordinance has been on the books for many years but was not enforced.

Mayor Berry pointed out land fill issues and the cost to the city to remove debris.

Citizens will continue to receive one free pick up per month of limbs or debris (now this does’t mean just a few sticks but big piles). Any additional pick up required will be billed to the occupant of the home. The cost for the second pick up is $25.

The City Maintenance Department will assess the need for billing.

(Reminder concerning the disposal of paint:  take lid off can…let dry…then set by the side of the road…no half-full cans or wet cans will be picked up by the city)
